CENTRAL JAIL

 

Objective of camp: To cater Eye health services to all the Prisoners of Central Jail, Bhopal

Amrita Drishti – Urban Eye Health programme, a Sightsavers supported project,  is being  implemented by AARAMBH, Bhopal since 4 years in Bhopal district, providing Quality eye health services to all marginalized and vulnerable group of people including disabled, trans-genders, beggars, etc.

AARAMBH in joint collaboration with LION’S Club and Sewa Sadan Eye Hospital, we could meet the Jail Superintendent for permission and other legal documentation following all the protocols of Central Jail. In order to fulfil the objectives of Inclusive Eye Health project, one of the vertical project of Amrita Drishti, we targeted the special group of people i.e. PRISONERS of Bhopal Central Jail to sensitize them about the various eyes conditions and diseases and quality eye care- preventive and palliative services.

This programme was organized on 31st March 2018 from 10am to 3pm by our AARAMBH team- Prakash Sharma (Optometrist), Sonu Kumar (VC Assistant) and Manohar Ahirwar (Field Organizer) under the direct supervision of Ms. Uma Sharma (IEH Coordinator) and Dr. Rahul Shrivastava (DPM), catering the comprehensive eye services to all 228 male prisoners. Total 131 FREE spectacles were dispensed to prisoners with refractive errors, and 12 prisoners were identified with Cataract.

Response of prisoners were good and thanked our team.

To transfer these prisoners from Central jail to base hospital for surgical treatment is really very challenging in the coming days.
